Introduction to IPEC

Integrated people-centred eye care (IPEC) was introduced to the eye care sector via the seminal World Report on Vision from the World Health Organization in 2019. It's a key concept for the eye care sector for this decade, but many eye health staff had questions, such as "What is IPEC?" "How is it different from previous approaches to eye care?" and "How can we make IPEC a reality?"

I was approached by the Fred Hollows Foundation and the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness to help provide guidance on IPEC to the eye sector.

With IAPB being a global organisation, we needed global reach for the learning solution, so decided to develop scenario-based elearning units. The learner plays the role of Clara, the Country Manager for an eye health NGO. You will participate in meetings and help guide the team towards a strategic plan for IPEC implementation.

There was no learning management system to use with the course, so we used MailChimp to build automated mail sequences to drip feed the four units and send reminders.

The course has been presented at IAPB's global conference, to date has been accessed by over 600 people from over 100 countries, and has recently been updated to align with key World Health Organization tools.

A Storyline demo is available, and you can also access the full course yourself at this link.
